Techniques for Achieving High Dose Accuracy to be Presented by Catalent Biologics Experts at ISPE Aseptic Conference

SOMERSET, N.J. – March 12, 2019 — Catalent Pharma Solutions, the leading global provider of advanced delivery technologies and development solutions for drugs, biologics and consumer health products, today announced that two of its scientific experts will present at the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) Aseptic Conference, at Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, North Bethesda, Maryland, on March 18 – 19, 2019.

On Tuesday, March 19 at 10:45 a.m., Alex Haig, Senior Director, Engineering and Marc Engel, Senior Process Engineer, Catalent Biologics, will present “Technical and Component Considerations for Achieving High Dose Accuracy” in the “Trending Barrier Topics: Gloveless Isolators & Dose Control” track. In their presentation, Mr. Haig and Mr. Engel will use case studies to show how an aseptic filling process was optimized for products with challenging characteristics such as variable viscosity or a tendency to crystallize. They will also review the specialized product development approach using Six Sigma principles in the filling process undertaken at the Catalent Biologics facility in Bloomington, Indiana, and how challenges such as ensuring accuracy and reproducibility were overcome.

Mr. Haig oversees engineering, maintenance, facilities, and large capital projects at Catalent Biologics’ largest facility in Bloomington, Indiana. He joined the company in 2014, with more than 18 years of experience in a highly regulated biopharmaceutical environment for drug substance and drug product operations, providing strong leadership in aseptic manufacturing, operational excellence, engineering, maintenance, utilities, and capital project management. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University, Philadelphia and a Six Sigma Black Belt certification from Villanova University.

In his role at Catalent, Mr. Engel provides technical support for the company’s drug product primary filling and packaging capabilities, and consults with new customers on projects during the program initiation phase to ensure capability alignment. He is the technical lead for new platforms on existing lines and equipment expansions and has been with Catalent Biologics for more than six years. Prior to this, Mr. Engel spent 14 years at Optima Pharma building, installing and qualifying filling and packaging equipment.
